Vulvo-vaginitis

Common age group is the first five years of life, but any prepubertal girl can be affected. Causes—
  • Infecting organism are:
  1. Candida
  2. E.coli
  3. Gonococcus
  4. Pneumococcus
  5. Staphylococcus
  6. Streptococcus
  7. Thread worms
  8. Trichomonas vaginalis
Transmission by:
  • Clothes
  • Hands
  • Mother
  • Toilet
  • Utensils
Foreign body inserted in vagina Symptoms And Signs—
  • Profuse, purulent vaginal discharge
  • Reddened, edematous vulva
  • Soreness
  • Irritation
  • Dysuria
  • Child constantly handling/scratching the external genitalia
  • P/R may reveal a foreign body
Investigations—
  • Culture and sensitivity test  of discharge
  • EUA(examination under anesthesia)
Treatment—
  • Medicines
  • Removal of foreign body
  • Isolation from other children
